Ana DeFrates is a strategist, attorney, and community organizer with experience spanning philanthropy, government, advocacy, and grassroots organizing. For more than two decades, she has worked at the intersection of reproductive justice and public policy, partnering with communities most impacted by disinvestment in healthcare access and environmental protections. Her work includes state legislative advocacy, local government leadership, coalition building across the c3 and c4 landscape, and advancing equitable systems change through policy, organizing, and philanthropy.
Ana currently leads strategy, performance, and strategic foresight initiatives for the City of Austin. A resident of Austin for nearly 30 years, she is passionate about strengthening communities and building a more just and resilient future. Outside of work, Ana is a U.S. Masters swimmer and open-water swimmer who enjoys connecting people to the waterways and public spaces that shape community life.
