Take Action

We need you to speak out for reform at the Railroad Commission!

Protect groundwater and prioritize timely well plugging practices!

HB 2766 (the House companion to SB 1150) would be significant progress towards safely decommissioning old wells, preventing further build-up of existing inactive wells, and protecting our communities and water.

Some industry leaders want the bill to be weaker with fewer restrictions on well plugging extensions, but that would be an ineffective strategy to address inactive wells. It’s time to take action and call on legislators to strengthen the bill. Please take a moment to sign on in support of stronger legislation for orphaned well plugging.

Protect groundwater and prioritize timely well plugging practices!

Senate Bill 1150 is an important start in addressing the surplus of inactive oil and gas wells that pose risks to drinking water safety and put a strain on taxpayer funds. It would help prevent wells from becoming orphaned in the first place, but loopholes and vague language in the bill would make it vulnerable in practice.

Now the committee needs to hear from you! Take action and call on your legislators to strengthen the bill. Please take a moment to request stronger legislation to support orphaned well plugging, keep drinking water safe, and reallocate taxpayer dollars.
